Weekly Update
Week 24ELA/SS
This week we are learning about nonfiction reading and informational writing in the classroom. The students will be learning about nonfiction text features and how to incorporate them into their own writing as well how to research a topic and record significant information in their research notes. In social studies we are learning about historical figures to help the students prepare for the living museum on February 22. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are continuing to work on telling them. They will be expected to tell the time to the exact minute. Please be sure to reinforce this skill at home. In science the students will begin to explore force and motion. HOMEWORK The students are require to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Math homework. It is due on Friday for a grade.

Week 23ELA/SS
This week the students will complete their unit on Fairy Tales. They will be taking a Reading Checkpoint on Tuesday that covers comprehension questions over a fairy tale that is at a k/l reading level. The students will read the book independently and then answer the questions. In writing they will complete their final fairy tale and move on to informational writing. The students will also be ending their social studies unit. They will review on Monday and take a test over economics. Content will include producers, consumers, needs, wants, goods, and services. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are reviewing in preparation for their math test on Thursday. The students will review measurement and area. After the test, the students will begin to learn about time. In Science they will also be reviewing. They will cover sources of energy and will take their test on Wednesday. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and math homework. Homework is due on Friday and it is a grade. This week the students will be continuing to work on fairy tales in both reading and writing. They will be learning how to fracture their own fairy tales and compare/contrast the different versions with one another. In social studies the students will continue to focus on economics. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are working on measurement and length in math. They students must be able to measure a given distance and/or object. They will also begin to discuss area and develop a basic understanding of the concept. In science, the students are continuing to work on energy. This week they will focus on sound energy. HOMEWORK The students are expected to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study, Math homework, and review their High Frequency Words. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. IMPORTANT DATES 1-16 MLK No School 1-20 Word Study Assessment Week 21ELA/SS This week the student are learning about fairy tales. They will begin to examine traditional versions with their fractured counterparts in reading while creating their own fractured fairy tale in writing. In social studies the students are focusing on economics and learning about goods and services. MATH/SS This week the students are continuing to study coins and count money in math. In science the students are visiting the science lab and learning about energy. HOMEWORK The students are expected to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study, Math homework, and review their High Frequency Words. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. Week 20 |
