December 11, 2017ELA/SS
This week the students are completing their unit on Folktales. They will have a unit test on Wednesday/Thursday which will cover story elements, character traits, and stating facts found in the texts. The students are expected to use their books to answer questions and provide text evidence. In writing, the students will edit and revise their piece. A published piece will be due on Thursday. In social studies, they are reviewing the content to prepare for their test on Thursday. This week will be the final week studying Long A vowel patterns and they will be tested on Friday. In grammar we will review apostrophes in contractions as well as possessions. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are continuing to work on addition and subtraction equations with 3 digit numbers. They will be solving the equations as well as working with word problems to develop their critical thinking skills. In science, the students are continuing to work with rocks. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and review their High Frequency Word list 4. There is no math homework for this week. ELA/SS This week the students are continuing to work with folktales in reading and writing. In both subjects the students will be looking at story elements, analyzing contemporary and traditional versions of fairy tales, and creating their own fairy tales. In grammar, the students are learning about apostrophes used to identify possessions. Their word study rule this week continues to review long A patterns. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are continuing to work on comparing and ordering numbers. Students are expected to identify number relationships using terms and symbols that identify less than, greater than, and equal to relationships. They are also returning to addition and subtraction, but now working with three digit numbers. In science, the students are learning about rocks. They will be working to identify characteristics and properties of rocks through observations and experiments. HOMEWORK The students are responsible for completing their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Science homework*. They are also responsible for reviewing their High Frequency words. This week they will be provided with list 4 to review and study over the break. They will be assessed January 4th. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. If it is not complete, they students will work on it during reward time, recess, or ZAP lab. *This week their math homework is replaced with a science project.
