Weekly Update
Week 31ELA/SS
This week the students are completing their units on poetry. In reading they will be working on inferring meaning from poems, visualizing using text evidence, and analyzing the structure of poems (including rhythm and rhyming patterns). They will have a test on Friday. In writing the students are completing their works of poetry and adding in figurative language. They will be learning about alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia. In social studies the students are continuing to learn about symbols and transitioning from USA symbols to Texas symbols. Grammar is reviewing their, there, and they're as well as introducing adverbs. MATH/SCIENCE This week in math the students are working on problem solving. They will use the problem solving method to answer math questions that require students to add and subtract using regrouping. In science they are reviewing material covered this past 9 weeks. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word study homework, and Math homework. They should also review their High Frequency Words. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. IMPORTANT DATES 3-28 STAAR Tesing , closed campus 3-29 STAAR testing, closed campus Please be sure to return permission slips for the 2nd grade field trip!

Week 30ELA/SS
This week the students are working on poetry in reading and writing. In reading they will be focusing on visualizing poems while using sensory details to create that image. In writing they are working on using repetition in their poems to emphasize important moments or ideas. In social studies the students are learning about US symbols. There will be a word study test on Friday over long o and e spelling patterns. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are reviewing for their math checkpoint. It will cover all material taught over the past 9 weeks. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Math homework. Homework is due on Fridays for a grade. This week the students received their new High Frequency Word list. Is is due April 17th. Week 29ELA/SS
This week the students are starting a new unit on poetry. They will begin examining the elements of poetry in both reading and writing. They will be working on visualizing in reading and using sensory words in writing. In social studies they will be working on US symbols. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are working on triple digit addition and subtraction as well as reviewing the past math content to prepare for their checkpoint on Friday. HOMEWORK The students are responsible for completing their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Math homework. Homework is due on Friday for a grade.
