Weekly Update

This week in reading the students are starting their new reading unit over series books. In this unit the students will build a deeper understanding of story elements, comprehension strategies, and character analysis. In writing the students are continuing in their current unit of opinion writing. This week the students will focus in on supporting their opinions with text evidence and then revising, editing, and publishing their opinion letter for a major grade. In grammar the students are reviewing possessive nouns. In word study the students are learning about suffixes. M/S/SS This week in math the students are continuing to work with fractions. They are specifically working on identifying examples and non-examples of halves, fourths, and eighths. In science the students are continuing their work with organisms and environments and focusing on how an organisms' systems help them survive in their environments. In social studies the students are starting a new unit focused on celebrations and cultures. HOMEWORK Students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study Homework, and DreamBox lessons. They will also be receiving their new High Frequency Word List this week for a test on the 13th. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. IMPORTANT DATES 4-30 ALL FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS AND MONEY DUE 4-30 Second Grade Choir Program 6:00pm 5-3 Goodies with Mom at 7:30 5-3 May Mayhem Week 1- Fort Day* May Mayhem is a time where we celebrate students who are following expectations in our classrooms and throughout the building. If a student loses no more than 2 Dojo points throughout the week, they will be able to bring a blanket from home to build a fort in the classroom. (During this time they may chat with friends and have some extra technology time!) Students who do not earn this reward will spend the time practicing expected behaviors.
