Weekly Update
FEBRUARY 25, 2018ELA
This week in writing the students are creating a new nonfiction article. They will research, plan, and draft their article over and animal of their choice for a major grade. In reading the students are studying their characters from their chapters books and making inferences based off of their actions and thoughts. (At this point in the school year students should be able to read a level L book silently for 35 minutes.) In grammar the students are learning about figurative language and focusing on similes and metaphors. In word study the students are learning about the ou and or word pattern. Please be sure to review nightly as well as the High Frequency Word List 6 that will be due next week. M/S/SS This week in math the students are reviewing content to prepare for their math test next week. Students will review numeracy and focus on place value up to 1,999. In science the students are continuing to learn about weather patterns. In social studies the students are completing their historical figures unit. HOMEWORK Homework is due on Friday for a grade. The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Dreambox lessons. They are also expected to review their High Frequency Words. This week the students will be completing their nonfiction article. We will focus in on adding facts and details to their pieces through the revision process. Please be sure to check SeeSaw so you can monitor their progress at home! In reading the students are continuing to work with chapter books and building their reading stamina. They will also be learning about literal and figurative language. In word study the students are starting a new word pattern. The students will be learning that "ee" makes the Long E sound. In grammar the students are reviewing adverbs and reviewing for their grammar test on Friday. M/S/SS This week the students are completing their measurement unit. The students are expected to know and apply the following vocabulary terms: AM/PM, analog clock, area, digital clock, distance, estimate, length, meter stick, measuring tape, number line, one minute increment, ruler, standard units, and yard stick. They will be completing their lessons and reviewing in class. In science the students will be visiting the lab for a lesson with Mrs. S. In social studies the students are learning more about each individual historical figure. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and DreamBox lessons. They are also expected to review their High Frequency Words. In reading we are working on building our stamina and comprehension while reading chapter books. In word study we are reviewing the long U and UR pattern for our test on Friday. In grammar we are learning about adverbs. M/S/SS This week the students are continuing to work with measurement in math. We will be focusing on standard and nonstandard units of measurement. In science the students are learning about earth and space. This week they will focus on weather patterns and recording data from the weather. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and DreamBox lessons. They are also expected to review their High Frequency Words.
