Weekly Update
November 18, 2019ELA
This week in reading the students are digging in deeper with character analysis. We will focus on studying character traits and thinking about how a character's thoughts, actions, and words define them and what kind of person we see them as. In writing the students are completing their first small moment book and beginning a second book about a meaningful small moment. The lessons this week will focus on adding details, description, and showing vs. telling emotions within our pieces. In grammar we are reviewing for our test on Wednesday or Thursday (depending on library lessons). A practice test will be sent home to review. In phonics we are reviewing word endings and will be taking a test on Thursday. The test will be over adding -ed/-ing/-s/-es to various words. M/S/SS This week in math the students will be starting a new unit. In this unit they will be learning how to organize a collection of data with up to four categories using pictographs and bar graphs with intervals of one or more. They will also be able to explain that the length of a bar in a bar graph or the number of pictures in a pictograph represents the number of data points for a given category. They are also reviewing story problems at this time. In science the students are beginning a new unit over movement. This week they will learn about rolling, sliding, and spinning. They will use this knowledge to create a maze as a STEM activity. In social studies the students are reviewing past content. HOMEWORK Students are expected to read aloud 20 minutes, complete 20 minutes of Dreambox lessons, and complete the short ELA activity on their homework every night. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. IMPORTANT DATES 11-25 Golden Ticket Event 11-25 through 11-29 Thanksgiving Break
