Weekly Update
Week 35ELA/SS
This week the students are continuing to work with their book series to study characters in reading. In writing, the students are working to revise letters about their books by adding more details about their book from their texts. In social studies the students are continuing to work on information related to Earth Day and reducing, reusing, and recycling our resources. In grammar the students are working on adverbs. We are paying close attention to words that tell how, when, and where. A new High Frequency Word list will be sent home with week. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are focusing on shapes. They are expected to know both 2d and 3d shapes. Vocabulary words that will be beneficial for them to know and understand are vertex, vertices, edge, base, and side. In science they are working on habitats and understanding the needs an organism must have to survive. IMPORTANT DATES 4-25 Progress Reports go home

Week 34ELA/SS
This week the students are working on responding to their reading in writing by focusing on sharing big moments from their books with other readers. In reading the students are working on their book series and focusing on characters and how they develop throughout their series. In grammar we were unable to take the test last week, so they will be tested this week over two, to, and too as well as their, there, they're. Adverbs will be assessed on the next grammar test. The students will be given their High Frequency Word test this week as well as their Word Study Assessment. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are continuing to focus on problem solving math equations with triple digit addition and subtraction. They will be required to solve multi-step problems that require regrouping as well as those that do not. In science the students are learning about animal adaptations and habitats. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Math homework. They are also expected to review their High Frequency Words. Homework is due on Friday for a grade. IMPORTANT DATES 4-18 Field Trip to Shaw Center Please be sure to pack a lunch for your child if that was the option you selected on the permission slip form! This week the students are working on responding to their reading in writing. They are creating letters to fellow readers about the story elements in their series books as well as exciting moments they would like to share with other readers. In reading the students are working on series books with an emphasis on characters. This week they are working on noticing how things are the same across series, analyzing how a character responds to problems, and thinking about what characters say and do. In grammar they are reviewing in preparation for their test. It will be over "to, too, and two" as well as adverbs. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are working on triple digit addition and subtraction in math. This is a skill they have been working on for a while, but they still need additional practice. Please help out at home by reviewing with your child. In science they are continuing to work on life cycles. Field Trip Our field trip will be next Tuesday. Due to potential weather issues, we have decided to stay at the Shaw Center for the entire day. We will no longer be having lunch at the park. Please be sure to check your child's backpack for an updated permission slip. They will still need to bring a sack lunch. This week the students are moving onto a new unit in reading that focuses on story elements and examining characters in depth while reading selections from popular book series. In writing the students are also working with the new unit and focusing on learning how to write about their reading and respond to the text accurately. In social studies the students are reviewing Texas and USA symbols. Their test will be next week. In grammar they are working adverbs as well as two, to, and too. MATH/SCIENCE This week the students are continuing to work on triple digit addition and subtraction. They are focusing on problem solving equations where they are solving for an unknown amount. This skill is difficult, so the extra practice is necessary. In science they are learning about life cycles and focusing on the life cycle of frogs. HOMEWORK The students are required to complete their Weekly Reading Log, Word Study homework, and Math homework. They are also expected to review their High Frequency Words.
