Weekly Update

This week in reading the students are continuing their work on fluency. They will be completing a graded activity over their fluency skills using a book at their independent reading level. Once that is completed we will begin to dig in deeper with comprehension. Our lessons will focus on literary language and understanding comparisons within our books. On Friday the students will complete a reading comprehension quiz for a minor grade. In writing the students are learning how to write fairy tales. This week they will focus on developing a plan, drafting a story, revising their piece to add in details, and editing their work for others to read. In grammar we are learning about singular and plural nouns. In phonics we are working on decoding multi-syllable words and specifically working with vowel teams. M/S/SS This week in math the students are continuing their work with telling time. They will focus on reading and writing time to the nearest one-minute increment using analog and digital clocks as well as distinguish between a.m. and p.m. In science the students are learning about natural and man made resources and will be visiting the science lab for an experiment. They will also complete a graded activity over this concept on Wednesday. In social studies the students are learning about economics and focusing on goods, services, producers, and consumers. HOMEWORK ELA homework has returned! Students are required to read aloud 20 minutes every night as well as complete the short grammar or phonics review for the day. Students are also expected to complete 20 minutes of Dreambox lessons. Homework is due on Friday for a grade.
